SUMMARY:Future of Smart Automation – HPE’s Academic Visit to Peking University under the “Ten Thousand People Plan”
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) at The Education University of Hong Kong was honored to be invited by the Department of PE at Peking University to participate in a seven-day academic visit to Peking University from 26 October to 1 November 2025 which was supported by the “Ten Thousand People Plan” (萬人計劃) under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The visit was led by Prof. Amy HA\, Dr. Gary CHOW\, Dr. Claudia WONG and Dr. ZHENG Chen\, with 20 students actively engaged in the trip. \n\n\n\nRepresentatives from HPE and Department of PE\, Peking University\n\n\n\nAn opening ceremony was held on the morning of 27 October to officially inaugurate the academic visit. \n\n\n\n\nRepresentatives from HPE and Department of PE\, Peking University\n\n\n\n\nOver the last week\, HPE representatives participated in various activities organized by Peking University\, including observing the training of high-level athletic teams and engaging in in-depth exchanges with experts to share valuable insights and experiences. \n\n\n\nHPE representatives observed the training of Basketball Team\, Peking University\n\n\n\nHPE representatives observed the training of Football Team\, Peking University\n\n\n\nHPE representatives participated in the lesson for adventure training\n\n\n\nA key highlight was HPE’s participation in the “第十屆北大人文體育高層論壇—智動未來：AI時代的人文體育精神”\, hosted by the Department of PE\, Peking University. During the forum\, Prof. HA delivered a keynote speech alongside several distinguished experts from Chinese Mainland universities\, and engaged in a roundtable discussion on “高水平運動員人才培養模式新探索”. During the subsequent sub-forum sessions\, three HPE staff members\, Dr. Gary CHOW\, Dr. Claudia WONG and Dr. ZHENG CHEN\, as well as two PhD students\, Mr KONG Yu Hin and Ms Jaclyn TSANG\, presented their research on the topic “AI賦能：運動與身心健康促進”\, receiving recognition from peers. \n\n\n\nProf. Amy HA\, Head of Department\, HPE delivered a keynote speech (Photo: Peking University)\n\n\n\nThis visit not only strengthened the academic connections in the field of sports between universities of Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland\, but also provided a solid foundation for future collaboration in research development. SUMMARY:Student Field Experience: Visit to the Hong Kong Sports Institute
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Louie Hung-tak Lobo\, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Health and Physical Education\, led a group of 40 students on 12 November in an invaluable visit to the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI)\, Hong Kong’s flagship elite training facility. This excursion was designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and world-class sporting practice\, offering a rare glimpse into the ecosystem that produces world champions. \n\n\n\nOur students observed the cutting-edge application of sports science\, from biomechanics labs\, sports nutrition kitchen and physiological testing to advanced recovery facilities. They engaged with professional coaches and sports scientists\, gaining first-hand insight into periodization planning\, technique analysis\, and the holistic athlete development model. Witnessing elite athletes in dedicated training provided students a powerful and real-time case study on peak performance\, talent management\, and the psychological resilience required at the highest level. This visit was a profound inspiration\, moving beyond textbook learning to showcase the tangible career pathways in sports science\, coaching\, and high-performance management. It underscored the critical role of a scientific and supportive infrastructure in athletic excellence\, leaving the students with a renewed passion for their potential future professions.

SUMMARY:Seminar on Major Sports Event: Organisation of a Major International Sports Event in Hong Kong
DESCRIPTION:To further support EdUHK runners in their preparation for the upcoming Hong Kong Marathon 2026\, the Department of Health and Physical Education is set to host a series of activities including workshops and seminar on marathon in November. Distinguished speakers will share practical tips on the training recovery and mental preparation for distance running and the organisation of major sports events. \n\n\n\nThe inaugural seminar on “Organisation of a Major International Sports Event in Hong Kong” was successfully held on 17 November 2025 at EdUHK. \n\n\n\nThe event featured Mr Kwan Kee\, Chairman of the Hong Kong\, China Association of Athletics Affiliates\, as the guest speaker. In this insightful talk\, Mr Kwan shared his extensive expertise in organising large-scale international sports events. SUMMARY:Learning and Teaching Seminar 2025/26 - Health Education and Promotion: Train the Trainer Program in Cambodia
DESCRIPTION:The HPE Learning and Teaching Seminar 2025/26\, “Health Education and Promotion: Train the Trainer Program in Cambodia “\, was successfully conducted on 18 Nov 2025. \n\n\n\nDr. OR Pui Lai\, Peggy shared the fruitful outcomes of the “Train the Trainer Program”\, which aimed to transfer protocol\, assessment skills and teaching materials for hand hygiene and infection control to undergraduate nursing students of Cambodia\, so that these trainers could in turn educate secondary school pupils on such issues. \n\n\n\nThe project team led by Peggy adopted not only face-to-face teaching mode for the program but also technology for delivering online sessions\, and extended the “Train the trainer” practice to physical education lessons with the participation of students of Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) programme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Peggy Or shared her valuable experience of “Train the Trainer” program with the staff and students at the University.

DESCRIPTION:Further to the inaugural seminar on the organisation of large-scale sports event held on 17 November\, the Department of Health and Physical Education is pleased to offer a subsequent workshop on 19 November titled “Beyond Physical Training: Managing the Mental Marathon Before\, During\, and After Race Day” to support runners in their preparation for the 2026 Hong Kong Marathon\, focusing not only on physical training but also on mental resilience and emotional well-being. \n\n\n\nThe workshop\, led by Dr. WONG Ming Yu\, Claudia\, Assistant Professor of the Department\, attracted numerous runners and sports enthusiasts. Dr. Claudia WONG shared practical psychological strategies on building confidence and managing anxiety before the race\, and adopting a proper mindset after the race to maintain motivation. SUMMARY:Honorary Professor Shen Jinkang Visits the Department and Delivers Lecture on Sports Coaching
DESCRIPTION:On November 25\, 2025\, the Department of Health and Physical Education was honored to have had Professor Shen Jinkang (沈金康)\, Honorary Professor of The Education University of Hong Kong and former Head Coach of the Hong Kong Cycling Team\, to visit the Department and deliver a guest lecture to students of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme. Before the lecture\, Prof. Shen met with Head of Department Prof. HA Sau Ching\, Amy\, Associate Professor Dr. SUN Fenghua and Lecturer Mr. SIU Ka Man\, and exchanged ideas with the Department’s research and teaching team on topics such as elite athlete development\, training monitoring\, and performance assessment. The discussion also explored the latest applications and future development of sports science in coach education and high-performance training. \n\n\n\nThe lecture\, titled “The Application of Sports Science in Elite Athlete Training”\, integrated both theoretical perspectives and practical insights\, offering students valuable professional knowledge. Drawing upon his extensive coaching experience and decades of field-based expertise\, Prof. Shen provided an in-depth analysis of several key issues closely related to high-performance athlete development\, including: \n\n\n\n\nThe current issues and future development of competitive sports management in China\n\n\n\nHow sports science can be applied in daily training to enhance athlete performance\, illustrated with practical examples\n\n\n\nTrends in competitive sports development observed from the National Games\n\n\n\nProfessional recommendations for coaches and sports practitioners\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe lecture received enthusiastic responses from the students\, who commented that Prof. Shen’s insights were both highly comprehensible and relevant\, bridging theory and practice and offering them significant guidance in academic pursuit and future career development.
