SUMMARY:HPE’s 4-week Exchange Programme to East China Normal University
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) was honoured to partner with the College of Physical Education and Health at East China Normal University to organise a four-week exchange programme from 17 May to 14 June 2026. The exchange programme was led by Prof. Amy HA\, Mr. Roy CHAN and Dr. Claudia WONG\, with 18 HPE students embarking on the journey. \n\n\n\nA warm welcome from Ms. HUANG Lanlan (Party Secretary)\, Prof. WANG Xiaozan (Dean) and their colleagues from the College of Physical Education and Health marked the beginning of the exchange programme on 18 May.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRepresentatives from HPE and College of PE and Health\, East China Normal University\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the opening ceremony\, Prof. Amy HA said she really looked forward to the exchange programme and introduced the distinctive features and talent development approach of the HPE department. She encouraged HPE students to broaden their horizons\, strengthen mutual understanding\, and build lasting friendships through the exchange programme.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProf. Amy HA\, Head of Department\, HPE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver the last week\, HPE students participated in various activities organized by East China Normal University\, enabling them to gain deeper understanding of the traditional Chinese culture and the development of physical education in the Chinese Mainland.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the coming weeks\, HPE students will participate in a wide range of activities\, including lectures\, workshops\, local visits and other practical sessions\, to gain further insights into the East China Normal University. Through these experiences\, students will further broaden their academic and cultural perspectives\, and learn from diverse approaches to sports education and health development.We hope that HPE students will not only develop precious memories\, but also gain professional insights throughout the four weeks. We look forward to fostering closer collaboration and deepening our partnership with the College of Physical Education\, East China Normal University.

SUMMARY:Western Sydney University Delegation Visits EdUHK
DESCRIPTION:A delegation from Western Sydney University of Australia visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) Tai Po Campus on 30 June 2026. The visit provided the delegation with a comprehensive understanding of EdUHK’s campus facilities\, including the Human Performance Laboratory (HPL)\, and the University’s history. \n\n\n\nStaff members of the Department of Health and Physical Education\, Chair Professor of Health and Sports Science Chow Hung Kay\, Daniel\, and Assistant Professor Dr. Wong Ming Yu\, Claudia\, extended a warm welcome to the guests. SUMMARY:[(Cycling) 6 Days Pordenone] EdUHK Elite Athlete-Students Won One Silver and One Bronze!
DESCRIPTION:Two elite athlete-students (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) performed exceptionally at the “6 Days Pordenone” cycling event held in Italy from 13 to 18 July\, winning one silver and one bronze medal. \n\n\n\nIn the Women’s Elite 50-Lap Points Race\, Lee Sze Wing successfully made breakaways in multiple sprint laps and finished the race with 19 points\, narrowly missing the gold with just one point behind the American rider and claimed the silver medal. \n\n\n\nShe then teamed up with Leung Wing Yee in the Women’s Madison Race. Although the pair did not score in the opening stages of the race\, they mounted a strong comeback\, finishing behind the Italian and Japanese pairs to secure the bronze medal. SUMMARY:HPE Programme Experiential Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) successfully hosted the HPE Programme Experiential Day on 27 June 2026\, which provided prospective students\, along with their teachers and parents\, with valuable insights into the undergraduate programmes offered by the Department.  \n\n\n\nThe event allowed participants to explore various aspects of the programmes through hands-on activities and practical sessions\, ranging from laboratory tests at the Human Performance Laboratory to taster lessons on Karate\, Rugby\, Strength and Conditioning\, Table Tennis\, Mobility Stick\, Tchoukball\, and Indoor Rowing. Attendees gained first-hand experience of the Department’s dynamic learning environment and diverse curriculum. \n\n\n\n(Photo of students participating in indoor rowing practical lesson)\n\n\n\nThe Department was honoured to have several current and former Hong Kong elite athletes conduct the trial lessons\, including Ms. Lee Ho Ching\, current member of the Hong Kong China Women’s Table Tennis Team; Ms. Chan Ka Man\, former member of the Hong Kong China Karatedo Team; and Mr. Yong Chi-fung\, former member of the Hong Kong China Men’s Rugby 7s Team and former Head Coach of the Hong Kong China Women’s Rugby 7s Team. \n\n\n\nTheir professional guidance and fruitful sharing provided participants with valuable and enjoyable learning experiences\, highlighting the event’s major goal. SUMMARY:Visiting PhD Student from the University of Jyväskylä Shares Innovative PE Teaching Approach with EdUHK Students
DESCRIPTION:On 9 September 2026\, the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) welcomed Ms Alicia Lucendo Noriega\, avisiting PhD student from the University of Jyväskylä\, Finland\, to a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) class at EdUHK. \n\n\n\nAlicia’s visit marked a meaningful continuation of the academic exchange established during HPE’s international visit to the University of Jyväskylä in August 2024 (https://flassnews.eduhk.hk/newsletter_article/SUMMER_2024_ISSUE_10/Cross-Cultural%20Collaboration%20between%20JYU%20and%20EdUHK). Building on this collaborative relationship\, she shared insights from her doctoral research project\, MUSPRO (Music\, Sports\, and Prosocial Behaviour\, https://www.jyu.fi/en/projects/muspro-music-and-sports)\, which explores the connections between music\, movement\, and social development. \n\n\n\nDuring the visit\, Alicia led an engaging 40-minute practical session intergrating sound\, music\, rhythm\, and movement. Through a carefully structured lesson\, Year 3 BEd(PE) students experienced how music-based activities can be incorporated into physical education to support learning and personal development. The session highlighted dimensions of physical education that extend beyond psychomotor development. Students took part in activities that encouraged communication\, imagination\, emotional awareness\, and collaboration\, while also experiencing moments of calm and reflection through movement. The innovative teaching approach provided students with a fresh perspective on how physical education can contribute to holistic learning and well-being. \n\n\n\nHPE remains committed to fostering international academic exchange and warmly welcomes scholars and researchers from around the world to share their expertise with staff and students. Such collaborations enrich learning experiences\, strengthen global partnerships\, and inspire new ideas in teaching\, research\, and professional practice. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we continue to connect\, collaborate\, and learn across cultures and disciplines.”
