SUMMARY:Enhancing Confidence in English: A Student-Led Initiative for PE Lessons
DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, students from the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) expressed concerns about their confidence in teaching PE lessons in English during focus group interview. In response\, two dedicated BEd(PE) students (Mr. Yiu Yat Hong & Mr. Tsang Cheung Lai\, Kristen) created a Padlet titled “English Teaching Term for PE Lessons“. This resource organizes key English expressions needed for PE classes\, covering areas such as greetings\, activity introductions\, instructions\, breaks\, wrap-up activities\, and feedback. \nThis Padlet serves as a practical tool to support students in overcoming language barriers\, helping them feel more prepared and confident in delivering bilingual PE lessons. It focuses on enhancing teaching effectiveness by providing easily accessible language resources tailored to the needs of PE instruction. It not only provides crucial support for HPE students\, helping them overcome language barriers\, but it also embodies HPE students’ commitment to creating an innovative and supportive learning environment. \nTwo professional PE teachers reviewed the Padlet and offered positive feedback. Ms. Chan Pui Shan noted that it is an “invaluable resource for students to familiarize themselves with necessary teaching expressions\,” while Ms. Ma Shun Ting highlighted its role in “boosting both language skills and teaching confidence.” \n\nScreenshot of Padlet

Importantly\, as there are not many team sports available for people with disabilities these days\, sitting light volleyball helps increase their opportunities for social interaction in sports and contributes to their psychological well-being. Research conducted by Dr. Leung and her team has also found that sitting light volleyball significantly improves the cardiovascular endurance and enjoyment of physical activity among people with physical disabilities while reducing their fat mass.
