SUMMARY:Virtual Sports Day at Free Methodist Mei Lam Primary School
DESCRIPTION:Principal and Teachers from Free Methodist Mei Lam Primary School with EdUHK Teacher (Third from the left) and Students (Three on the right)\n \n\nStudent competed in Standing High Jump\n\n \n \n\nHK01 reported that Free Methodist Mei Lam Primary School co-organized a two-week Virtual Sports Day with the Department of Health and Physical Education at EdUHK from 22 February – 5 March 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThis virtual Sports Day aimed to instill sports knowledge in primary school students and helped students develop the habit of regular exercise. Considering the infection control measures\, venue and time\, 3 competition items had been arranged for this virtual Sports Day: Standing Long Jump\, Standing High Jump and High Knees in 30s. The result of all items were measured and calculated with the help of mobile applications\, which not only enhanced the fun but also saved a lot of time and effort for equipment and staff arrangement. \n\n \n\n \n\nThe EdUHK Organizing Committee members demonstrated the proper gesture of the competition items and also explained the use of the Applications before the competition began. During the event\, EdUHK students guided each “little athletes” from the side to make them perform better. Mr Chiu Hin-chun\, an elite rower and current student of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme\, joined some of the matches to instruct students and gave excellent demonstrations of the three sports items. With the encouragement and guidance of all EdUHK students\, every “little athletes” had their fun in this Virtual Sports Day. They learnt different sports techniques and enjoyed the fun of sports. Due to current pandemic situation\, the Championship was played behind closed doors with participation of top players in Hong Kong Team.
