SUMMARY:Successful 2nd PE Assembly 2024/25 Insights on EDB's Optimization of Weighting for Internal Assessments in Physical Education
DESCRIPTION:The Health and Physical Education (HPE) department successfully hosted the 2nd Physical Education (PE) Assembly on 20 January\, 2025\, which served as a pivotal platform for over 180 students from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) [BEd(PE)] and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary and Secondary) [PGDE(P)/(S)] programmes.  HPE is very honour to have had Ms. Annie Wong\, Chief Curriculum Development Officer (Physical Education) and her respective colleagues to explain to us the forthcoming changes in the Internal Assessment (IA; 教育局優化呈分試科目比重) for the Secondary School Places Allocation System. This new framework will be implemented starting from the second term of Primary 5 in the 2026/27 school year. With this valuable opportunity\, HPE colleagues intended to equip our future PE teachers from the BEd(PE) and PGDE(P)/(S) programmes with a thorough understanding of the rationale behind these changes and the support available to schools. We are proud to share that the active participation of PE-major students was a highlight of the assembly\, demonstrating their engagement and commitment to their professional development. This engagement was recognized and commended by the EDB representatives\, highlighting the importance of interactive learning environments in teacher education. The assembly not only served as an informative session but also as a networking opportunity for students to connect with faculty\, peers\, and industry professionals.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPost-Assembly Activities Following the assembly\, EDB representatives toured the Human Performance Laboratory and sports facilities\, providing them with firsthand insights into the practical applications of the theoretical concepts discussed during the assembly. SUMMARY:[TVB J Sport]Promoting Light Volleyball: An Adapted Physical Activity for the Older Adults and People with Physical Disabilities
DESCRIPTION:Recently\, Dr. LEUNG Ka Man\, Carman\, an Associate Professor of the Department of Health and Physical Education at our university\, was invited to introduce light volleyball on the J Sport program on TVB. Dr. Leung explained that\, compared to traditional volleyball\, light volleyball features a larger and lighter ball with simpler rules\, making it easier for participants to get started. Additionally\, as a non-contact sport\, light volleyball significantly reduces the risk of injury\, making it particularly suitable for older adults. Dr. Leung’s research indicated that older participants playing light volleyball showed significant improvements in physical and psychological health. Dr Leung and her team also adapted light volleyball to play in people with physical disabilities. Besides\, sitting light volleyball provides a highly inclusive environment for people with and without physical disabilities\, allowing them not only to enjoy the benefits of sports but also to enhance their social and mental well-being. In the interview\, older participants shared that light volleyball is not only enjoyable but also fosters teamwork. The rules are easy to learn\, and the activity helps them improve their physical health. The promotion of light volleyball creates more opportunities for people of various ages and physical abilities to engage in sports\, infusing greater inclusivity and vitality into community sports in Hong Kong.\n \n\n \n\n \nSource: TVB J Sport
