SUMMARY:Prof. Sheung-Tak Cheng recognized as a World-class Researcher
DESCRIPTION:A big congratulation to Prof. Sheung-Tak Cheng\, who has been recognized as an Expertscape World Expert in Caregivers\, and also included among the most-cited list of scientists compiled by Stanford researchers!  Expertscape is a U.S company that uses algorithms to objectively rank people and institutions by their expertise in more than 29\,000 biomedical topics. The experts are ranked according to the quality and quantity of their publications. Prof. Cheng ranks in the top 0.03% of 91\,987 published scholars worldwide on the topics of Caregivers from 2011 through 2021 based on his contributions to the topic.  As a productive scholar\, Prof. Cheng’s outstanding research ability is also evidenced by him being included in the list prepared by researchers of Stanford University since the list began in 2017. The list ranks academics by the number of times their research has been cited against other authors in the subfields in which they work. Prof. Cheng was recognized for his contributions to the subfields of geriatrics\, gerontology\, and clinical medicine. These achievements serve as a solid proof of the influential research that Prof. Cheng has conducted throughout the years. SUMMARY:HPE Staff Met with Government Officials on Local Sports Coaching Development
DESCRIPTION:Mr. YEUNG\, Tak-keung\, Commissioner for Sports and Mr. Alex LEUNG\, Assistant Secretary for Home Affairs (Recreation & Sport) have honorably visited the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) on 29th November 2021. The purpose of the visit was to understand the structure of the new UGC-funded progrmame – Bachelor of Science (Sports Science and Coaching) [BSc(SPSC)] and to discuss the role of HPE in the future development of Hong Kong sports coaching industry. During the meeting\, Mr. Yeung expressed confidence in the success of BSc(SPSC) programme and provided concrete suggestions on further development of the programme. Colleagues found the meeting truly insightful and fruitful as they exchanged ideas with government officials on ways to deepen relationships with various national sports associations and to enhance the quality and social status of sports coaches in Hong Kong. DESCRIPTION:Photo credit: EdUHK\n \nThe Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) received a generous donation of HK$2 million from the Friends of Hong Kong Association (FHKA) on 2 December in support of the University’s Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Fund\, a scheme established to promote the dual career pathway for local athletes and to foster the sustainable development of local sports. The donation ceremony was attended by FHKA President Dr Henry Tang Ying-yen\, Vice-Presidents Professor Anthony Wu Ting-yuk and Mr Ng Leung-ho\, Vice-President and Secretary Dr Tam Kam-kau\, Vice-President Dr Eliza Chan Ching-har\, Executive Director Mr Lu Fu; and EdUHK Council members and staff. DESCRIPTION:Hong Kong’s universities released information about the popular programmes selected by students for Band A (top three JUPAS choices) this year on 9 December 2021. Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) and Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching were the third and the fourth popular programmes respectively at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK).  Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching [BSc(SPSC)] is a new UGC-funded bachelor’s degree programme at the EdUHK. The programme aims to prepare competent sports science and coaching professionals. It equips students with essential knowledge and technology in sports science\, coaching and performance with practical experience. SUMMARY:RTHK Interview Chung Pui Ki on Road to be a Football Athlete & Dual Career Pathway
DESCRIPTION:The RTHK has interviewed Chung Pui Ki Vicky\, a female football athlete and the Year 1 student of Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme on her sport development and dual career pathway. She is the first batch of athlete-students from Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) admitted into EdUHK after signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong\, China (SF&OC) on 8 January 2021\, while EdUHK is the first local university to establish such a collaboration with HKACEP. Vicky shared that she now had a clear goal to complete a bachelor programme. She was so glad to get an offer from the University through the special admission scheme under the MOU with HKACEP and EdUHK. She not only could concentrate on sport training\, competitions and coaching\, but also could enhance her academic level supported with the flexible study arrangement.
