SUMMARY:“Online Consultation Cabinet” Helps SEN students to Face the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted the daily lives of school children and made it more difficult for students with special educational needs (SEN) to adapt. Mr Roy Chan\, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Health and Physical Education\, EdUHK\, worried that the pandemic affects SEN students’ emotional health\, so at the end of February\, he established the “Online Consultation Cabinet” to provide emotional support for SEN students. More than 100 primary and secondary school students and their families have benefited so far. \nInspired by remote medical consultation\, Mr Chan and his students conducted one-on-one interviews with SEN students through “Observation\, Auscultation\, Interrogation and Action” (modified from Observation\, Auscultation\, Interrogation and Palpation in Chinese medicine) to understand their physical and mental condition. He shared useful information about the pandemic and taught them home exercise and mindfulness activities. \nThe one-on-one interviews can help to gain deeper understanding of the difficulties that SEN families encountered during the pandemic and provide adequate support. In case of serious emotional distress cases\, they can also be referred for follow-up. \nFor more details\, please visit: \nOn.cc: 擔憂SEN生難應對疫情　教大講師設「網上百子櫃」遙距支援TOPick: 【提早暑假】教大為SEN學生提供線上情緒支援服務　教簡單居家運動Bastille Post: 教大推「網上百子櫃」支援特教生HKCD: 染疫學者創「網上百子櫃」支援SEN學童Sing Tao: 教大推「網上百子櫃」支援特教生Ming Pao: 活動推介：線上居家運動 支援SEN孩子 \n\n

SUMMARY:Promoting Healthy Eating in Primary Schools through Group Work in HCS4033 Integrative Nutrition
DESCRIPTION:Healthy eating can promote children’s growth and reduce the risks of many chronic diseases\, such as heart disease\, diabetes and certain types of cancer. However\, for several reasons\, healthy eating is not a common practice among local students. According to data from the Department of Health (DH)\, about one in five of the local primary school students is overweight or obese. (EatSmart@school.hk)   To promote healthy eating in an innovative and creative way\, Dr. CHUNG Ming Yan\, Louisa invited students to design a board game about healthy eating for primary students in HCS4033 Integrative Nutrition. The theme of the board game focuses on the concepts of balanced diet. The objective of this game-based activity is to stimulate primary students to achieve some areas on healthy eating such as food categories\, relationships of nutrients and food groups\, portion size of healthy eating\, reduction on oil\, sugar and salt intake\, and nutrients and diseases etc.  All 10 groups of students created varied board games and ideas to promote healthy eating\, and 2 of them did well on the design.\n\n\n\n\n\nHCS4033 Integrative Nutrition\n\n\nBoard Game Name:\nHealth Son\nWalk With Your Knowledge\n\n\nTarget Players:\nPrimary School Students\nPrimary 4 – 6 Students\n\n\nNo. of Players:\n2 – 4 players\n3 – 4 players\n\n\nDuration:\n30 – 45 mins\n15 – 30 mins\n\n\nObjectives:\n\n\nLearn and apply the rules of balanced diet\nIdentify the major nutritional content of different foods\nDefine a balanced diet and design a 3-2-1 portions lunch box\nDistinguish which eating behaviours negatively affect body nutrition\n\n\n\n\nLearn different types of food in the food pyramid\nLearn the names of the categories of the food pyramid (e.g. grains\, vegetables\, or fruits)\nDistinguish different food categories in the food pyramid after playing the game\n\n\n\n\nDetails:\n\n\nIntroduction\nDemonstration\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction\nDemonstration\n\n\n\n\nGroup members:\nFUNG Chun-tat King (upper left)\, LEUNG Nga-yuan (upper right)\, CHOW King-chuen (bottom left)\, and LIU Kei-nga (bottom right)\nCHEUNG Wing-yan (upper left)\, CAI Ming-ming (upper right)\, WONG Ka-fai (bottom left)\, and TSENG Lap-hei (bottom right)\n\n\nPhotos:\n“Health Son” Food cards Challenge cards\n“What with Your Knowledge” Food cards Challenge cards\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSource / Click here for more details

SUMMARY:HPE Adapted Physical Education Teacher Workshop
DESCRIPTION: \n\nThe HPE adapted physical education teacher workshop was held on 8th July and 15th July 2022 successfully. The workshop was conducted under the theme of adapted physical activity (APA) and adapted physical education (APE)\, with international and local perspectives.  Five speakers from the University of Worcester and the Education University of Hong Kong brought a number of attractive subtopics under the theme of APE/APA. The workshop provided a good platform to deliver both theoretical and practical knowledge related to APE/APA to the local school (including special school) teachers\, and inspired them to work with parents and other stakeholders to promote an optimized sports atmosphere in schools and in society.  We hope that\, through the workshop\, students with special education needs will be encouraged to engage in regular exercise as much as possible for the sake of maintaining good health\, adopting an active and healthy lifestyle\, and unleashing vitality with positive attitudes. HPE would continue to collaborate with the University of Worcester in promoting APA/APE practice in local societies and developing APA/APE research in the future.\n
