DESCRIPTION: \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nThe Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) held a presentation ceremony today (16 May) for its President’s Awards for Outstanding Performance in Teaching\, Research\, Knowledge Transfer and Administrative Services 2018/19. On the occasion\, EdUHK Council Chairman Professor Frederick Ma Si-hang and President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung presented the awards to six staff members and five teams for their achievements and contributions. Professor Stephen Cheung extended his sincere appreciation to the awardees\, ‘The exemplary performance of the awardees in different areas sets an example for their peers and contributes to the growth of EdUHK. SUMMARY:EdUHK Wins Five Awards at the Geneva’s Invention Expo

SUMMARY:Professor Sheung-Tak Cheng speaks at World Dementia Council Summit
DESCRIPTION:Professor Sheung-Tak Cheng is Chair Professor of Psychology and Gerontology at HPE. Being the brain health expert with focus on dementia care\, Professor Cheng was invited to give a talk and participate in the prestigious World Dementia Council Summit on 5 Dec 2018. The World Dementia Council was established during the G8 (now G7) Summit in 2013. He was invited in his capacity as Emeritus Member of the Global Council on Brain Health which issued the first global guideline on participation in cognitively stimulating activities and brain health (published in five languages\, namely English\, Chinese\, Spanish\, French\, and Latin)\, and to contribute to an “Asia-global dialogue” about key issues. He was the only Asian speaker invited\, other than representatives from Japan which is a G7 country.  The World Dementia Council Summit puts dementia on the international agenda\, sets goals\, and commits global leaders to collective action to meet this significant health challenge. At the Brain Health and Public Policy Challenge panel\, Professor Cheng delivered a talk on the challenges of defeating dementia by 2025 and discussed important international policy priorities.  The event was widely covered by media around the world. Participants included eminent scientists around the world\, ministers from UK\, Netherlands\, and Japan government; CEOs and officials from OECD\, World Health Organization\, Alzheimer’s Association\, Alzheimer’s Society\, national Institute of Mental Health\, and National Institute on Aging; as well as David Cameroon (former UK prime minister) and Maria Shriver (former First Lady of California and award-winning journalist and media personality). The level of discourse by these distinguished participants leading to a roadmap to defeating dementia by 2025 was unparalleled. SUMMARY:HKIEd Dancing Competition to Promote message of Love\, Health and Care in Community
DESCRIPTION:The Faculty of Liberal Arts and Social Science (FLASS) and the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme [BHE] co-organized a series of activities from March 2014 to May 2014\, as a part of the Institute’s campaign to spread the messages of love\, health and care to the community.  Following the first activity – Healthy Cooking Competition – which was held on 20 March 2014 successfully\, the second activity – Dancing Competition – was completed on 30 April 2014. The competition aims to promote general public’s awareness of healthy lifestyle by incorporating simple dancing movements into daily physical activity. Participants were required to design fun dancing movements to motivate children’s active engagement in dancing activities so as to achieve overall physical fitness. Four teams were selected as finalists\, namely Let’s Dance\, IEd Pop\, KDancer and Energy. The participating teams presented their dancing and ideas behind\, delighting the audience with their lively presentations and demonstrations.  The Winner team\, Energy (members included HKIEd students: Kwok Tsz Hin\, Lee Ka Wai Jimmy (elite athlete in Karate) and Yip Pui Yin (elite athlete in Badminton)) will promote their dance in local primary school\, to share the joy of dancing and healthy activity together. In addition to the dancing competition\, a hair-cutting volunteering project will be held in the coming month\, as the last activity to show a sense of care towards society and to encourage the general public to enjoy a healthy lifestyle together.  Dancing Competition Results: \n\n\nGold Prize：\nEnergy\n\n\n \nSilver Prize：\nKDancer\n\n\n\n \nBronze Prize：\nLet’s Dance\n\n\n\n\n \n \n\n\n\n\n \nMr Wing Lam\, who played a role in the movie “The Way We Dance”\, demonstrates popping dance with elite athletes Ms Yip Pui-yin and students from YLLDE Wai Chow School.\n \n\n \nDancing Competition to promote messages of love\, health and care in Community.\n\n\n\n  \n* For more photos\, please visit HKIEd Facebook Page

DESCRIPTION:For the fourth consecutive year\, The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) held its President’s Commendation Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony 2013-14 on 2 April 2014 to commend students on their outstanding achievements beyond academic studies and to recognise the importance of co-curricular activities in university studies. A total of 14 students and a team were awarded the President’s Commendation or Certificate of Achievement this year for their excellent performance.  Out of them\, the Institute’s Ruby Team and a year 2 student of the HPE Bachelor of Science Education (Honours) (Sports Science) Programme\, Miss KOT Chung Ling were granted the “President’s Commendation”and “Certificate of Achievement” respectively to recognize their outstanding achievements in sports On the other hand\, Sing Tao\, Ta Kung and Wen Wei reported that HKIEd’s Rugby Team was awarded the “Best Institution” by Hong Kong Rugby Football Union last year. SUMMARY:HKIEd Healthy Cooking Competition to Promote Messages of Love\, Health and Care in Community

Winners will share their recipes with a group of school children with special needs\, to share the joy of learning\, cooking and healthy eating together. \nFive teams were selected as finalists\, namely The Healthy Wok\, The Taste of Rainbow\, The Natural Garden and its Nutritional Secrets\, Sally’s Wealthy Stars\, as well as Chefs of Fitness. DESCRIPTION:HKIEd had developed an electronic diary which allowed students to upload images of their food and details of exercise to a web-based system via their smart phones and camera. The data is then analyzed by dieticians who provide feedback on energy and nutrient analysis for self-reflection. The leading researcher Dr. CHUNG Ming Yan\, Louisa\, Assistant Professor at the Department of Health and Physical Education\, said the aim of the e-diary was to transfer nutrition knowledge to the user so that with practice they could modify their own behaviour.
