DESCRIPTION:Four elite athlete-students (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 UCI Track World Cup held in Perth\, Australia\, from March 6 to 8. On the opening day\, Lee Sze Wing impressed with a decisive late surge in the women’s elimination race\, defeating the Australian rider to secure her first-ever World Cup bronze medal. She continued her strong form in women’s omnium\, maintaining consistency across four events. With a total of 117 points\, she earned a second bronze medal in this competition. In the men’s team pursuit\, Ng Pak Hang\, Tso Kai Kwong\, and Mow Ching Yin\, alongside with their teammates Chu Tsun Wai and Ma Yik Fei\, advanced to the final after defeating Chinese Taipei in the semi-final. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss EdUHK’s overarching strategic vision for research and development\, as well as to cultivate dialogue on ongoing and future initiatives within the Department. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProf Amy HA (right)\, Head of Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE)\, delivered an opening speech with the VP(RD)\, Prof Chetwyn CHAN (left)\n\n\n\n\nThe meeting gathered the HPE academic and teaching staff\, as well as representatives from the VP(RD) Office\n\n\n\nDuring the meeting\, Prof CHAN shared the University’s vision to enhance research excellence and strengthen collaborative efforts across disciplines. HPE members engaged actively in discussions\, exchanging ideas and providing updates on various research initiatives that align with the University’s strategic goals. The VP(RD) provided guidance on departmental research performance and identified areas for growth with HPE colleagues. In addition\, the session featured an open Q&A session\, enabling HPE members to raise questions and share insights directly with the VP(RD). The department management was also invited to share their observations and perspectives on research challenges and opportunities within the unit. \n\n\n\nDr. Lobo LOUIE (middle) offered suggestions for the potential development and future growth of the Department.\n\n\n\nProf Andrew EDWARDS (front) shared his views on current practices in PhD student admission.\n\n\n\nThis visit underscores the University’s commitment to fostering a vibrant research environment and supporting departments in their scholarly pursuits. SUMMARY:[SBH Singapore International Challenge 2026] Ng Tsz Yau won Silver in Mixed Doubles!
DESCRIPTION:Our current elite athlete-student Ng Tsz Yau (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) shone at the “SBH Singapore International Challenge 2026”. Partnering with Chan Yin Chak in the badminton mixed doubles event\, they defeated teams from India\, Malaysia\, Thailand and then staged a comeback to beat the Korean duo 2:1 in the semifinals. The final was held on March 1\, where Ng Tsz Yau and her partner faced the second-seeded Japanese duo. They led briefly in the opening game but ultimately fell short\, losing 0:2. Despite the setback\, the pair grabbed their first-ever mixed doubles silver medal in this tournament. Partnering with Wong Chun Ting\, the duo defeated the world No. 5 Spanish pair 3:0 in the quarterfinals to advance. The semifinals took place on February 26. They won the first game 11:9 against Brazilian opponents but were unable to sustain their advantage in the later stages\, eventually losing 1:3. SUMMARY:EdUHK Honors Athletes of the 15th National Games with Scholarships
DESCRIPTION:The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) proudly hosted the “Celebration and Recognition Ceremony of the Achievements of EdUHK Athletes at the 15th National Games” on February 26 at the New Academic Building to honour student athletes and alumni who took part in the event. The University presented the “Elite Athlete Scholarship” and certificates of recognition to acknowledge participants’ outstanding achievements in the national competition. Fifteen student athletes and alumni\, representing disciplines such as cycling\, volleyball\, rowing\, handball\, and martial arts\, attended the ceremony. Among them were gold medalists Lee Sze-wing (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours))\, Leung Wing-yee (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours))\, Cado Lee Ka-to (Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management)\, and Wang Liuyi (Doctor of Education (Chinese))\, whose victories brought pride to the University. During the ceremony\, athletes shared their experiences\, reflecting on the challenges of intensive training and the determination required to succeed. SUMMARY:Department Hosted Tea Reception to Connect with Internship and Field Experience Partners
DESCRIPTION:On 6 February 2026\, the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) hosted a Tea Reception to foster meaningful collaborations and knowledge exchange between the Department and valued partners in internship and Field Experience. The event provided an excellent platform for all parties to share insights and collectively explore innovative approaches for nurturing the next generation of educational professionals. More than 50 principals and teachers from local primary and secondary schools\, along with representatives from internship partner organizations\, enthusiastically discussed strategies to provide high-quality internships and experiential experiences to students. With active participation of the partners\, valuable insights and tips were shared with students\, aiming to cultivate caring students and future educators with outstanding professional qualities\, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of Hong Kong and the international community. The Department is also honored to have two long-standing partners\, member of Sha Tin District Council and graduates of Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)\, Mr. Yeung Ying Hon\, and awardee of the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Physical Education Key Learning Area)\, Mr. Lai Ho Ki\, to share their unique experiences on internships. SUMMARY:[Asian Road Cycling Championships 2026] EdUHK Elite Athlete-Students win Gold and Silver!
DESCRIPTION:Four elite athlete-students (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an outstanding performance at the Asian Road Cycling Championships 2026 held in Saudi Arabia from February 5 to 11. On the opening day\, Leung Wing Yee won the silver medal in the Women’s Individual Time Trial by completing the 20 km race in 26 minutes and 13 seconds. On the third day of competition\, Wing Yee joined forces with Lee Sze Wing\, Lau Wan Yau and Ng Pak Hang\, alongside other teammates\, in the Mixed Team Relay.  The team clinched the gold medal by finishing 31.6 km in 37 minutes\, 58.27 seconds\, defeating the three times champions Kazakhstan. This victory marks Hong Kong’s first-ever gold in the Mixed Team Relay event. SUMMARY:Nissin Foods Elite Athletes Scholarship Award Ceremony 2025/26
DESCRIPTION:The Nissin Foods Scholarship Presentation Ceremony 2025/26 was held on 27 January 2026 to award scholarships to elite athlete-students from the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) who strive for excellence in their studies while continuing to excel in their sporting performance. The scholarship will cover full yearly tuition fees of the recipients\, allowing them to focus on their studies without worrying about financial burden. For the fourth consecutive year\, Nissin Foods (Hong Kong) Charity Fund (“Charity Fund”) continued its support to the outstanding students enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme (BHE)\, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching [BSc(SPSC)] Programme\, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) Programme (Major in PE) at EdUHK. The four new scholarship awardees in the 2025/26 academic year are MOK Pak Fan Logan (triathlon) and WONG Pak Yiu Anson (triathlon)\, Year 1 students of BSc(SPSC); HO Kin Yiu Yoyo (volleyball) and YAN Nuo Norah (shuttlecock)\, Year 1 students of PGDE-PE. The three awardees receiving renewed scholarship are CHEN Pak Hong\, Jaden (rowing)\, LAU Joseph (cycling) and CHOI Kwan Lok (cycling\, retired) from BHE. Prof. CHAN Che Hin\, Chetwyn\, Vice President (Research and Development) of EdUHK\, sincerely thanked the Nissin Foods Charity Fund for its generous support to the University. He also praised the outstanding achievements of the students. DESCRIPTION:In support of the Hong Kong Marathon\, the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) at The Education University of Hong Kong organised and participated in a wide range of marathon-related activities before and after the race. Through professional outreach and active involvement in the race\, the Department showcased its expertise and strong community spirit in advancing physical education\, health education and sport science. On 15 and 17 January\, Professor Ha Sau-ching Amy\, Chair Professor of Physical Education and Sports Science and Head of the Department\, and Dr Louie Hung-tak Lobo\, Senior Lecturer\, were invited by the marathon organiser to deliver thematic seminars on sports for the public and runners. DESCRIPTION:Prof. Liu Xinmin\, Vice Chairman of the National Technical Committee on Standardization of Laboratory Animals\, Director of the Branch of Food and Medicine Homology Industry of the Chinese Nutrition Society\, and Chief Scientist at the Institute of Drug Discovery Technology\, Ningbo University\, delivered a lecture on “Ginseng as Supplement – Strategies for Maintaining Physical and Mental Health” in his visit on 8 January 2026 to the Department of Health and Physical Education at The Education University of Hong Kong. \n\n\n\nProf. Liu elaborated his recent research findings on the potential benefits of ginseng and ginsenosides in enhancing concentration\, improving physical performance\, regulating stress hormones\, and supporting overall well-being and healthy aging. SUMMARY:[Sun Hung Kai & Co. Around the Island Race 2025] EdUHK Elite Athlete-Student Asgar Kikabhoy Wins Windsurfing Category
DESCRIPTION:The Sun Hung Kai & Co. Around the Island Race 2025\, the largest annual sailing event in Hong Kong organized by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club\, was held last Saturday (13 December) at Victoria Harbour. The event attracted around 230 teams and nearly 1\,700 local and overseas competitors\, creating a vibrant and highly competitive atmosphere. \n\n\n\nOur elite athlete-student\, Asgar Kikabhoy (Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Sports Science and Coaching)\, represented the Hong Kong\, China Windsurfing Team to compete in the windsurfing category\, which has been reinstated after a 22-year hiatus. Asgar delivered an outstanding performance and claimed the category championship\, finishing just 41 seconds ahead of his teammate. With the windsurfing category reinstated this year\, Asgar conducted in-depth studies of the coastal features of Hong Kong Island and wind forecasts prior to the race\, and undertook targeted physical training to build endurance required for long-distance competition. SUMMARY:[BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025] Yuen Sin Ying Claims Bronze Medal
DESCRIPTION:The Badminton World Federation (BWF) held the inaugural “BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025” from 11 to 14 December 2025 at Khor Fakkan Beach\, located on the east of the third-largest city Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. This landmark event brought together elite athletes from 12 countries and regions worldwide\, showcasing the innovative appeal of outdoor badminton. \n\n\n\nOur elite athlete-student Yuen Sin Ying (graduate of Bachelor of Health Education and Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management) represented Hong Kong\, China in the Women’s Triples event\, collaborating seamlessly with her teammates to capture the bronze medal. Sin Ying and her teammates demonstrated exceptional skills throughout the competition. In the group stage\, they defeated Australia 3-0 and overcame China 3-2\, finishing top of the group to advance to the quarterfinals. They subsequently defeated Germany 3-1 in the quarterfinals to secure a spot in the semifinals. SUMMARY:Honorary Professor Shen Jinkang Visits the Department and Delivers Lecture on Sports Coaching
DESCRIPTION:On November 25\, 2025\, the Department of Health and Physical Education was honored to have had Professor Shen Jinkang (沈金康)\, Honorary Professor of The Education University of Hong Kong and former Head Coach of the Hong Kong Cycling Team\, to visit the Department and deliver a guest lecture to students of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management programme. Before the lecture\, Prof. Shen met with Head of Department Prof. HA Sau Ching\, Amy\, Associate Professor Dr. SUN Fenghua and Lecturer Mr. SIU Ka Man\, and exchanged ideas with the Department’s research and teaching team on topics such as elite athlete development\, training monitoring\, and performance assessment. The discussion also explored the latest applications and future development of sports science in coach education and high-performance training. \n\n\n\nThe lecture\, titled “The Application of Sports Science in Elite Athlete Training”\, integrated both theoretical perspectives and practical insights\, offering students valuable professional knowledge. Drawing upon his extensive coaching experience and decades of field-based expertise\, Prof. Shen provided an in-depth analysis of several key issues closely related to high-performance athlete development\, including: \n\n\n\n\nThe current issues and future development of competitive sports management in China\n\n\n\nHow sports science can be applied in daily training to enhance athlete performance\, illustrated with practical examples\n\n\n\nTrends in competitive sports development observed from the National Games\n\n\n\nProfessional recommendations for coaches and sports practitioners\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe lecture received enthusiastic responses from the students\, who commented that Prof. Shen’s insights were both highly comprehensible and relevant\, bridging theory and practice and offering them significant guidance in academic pursuit and future career development. DESCRIPTION:The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is holding its 2025 Graduation Ceremony on the Tai Po Campus between 19 and 22 November\, conferring degrees on more than 5\,700 graduates\, including 23 elite athlete students. \n\n\n\nTwo elite athlete graduates from the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE)\, Doo Hoi-kem and Chan Yan-kit\, both graduates of the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) programme\, have been appointed as EdUHK’s “Elite Athlete Friendly University” Ambassadors. The appointments recognize their outstanding accomplishments in both academic studies and high-performance sport. Drawing on their dual-pathway experiences at EdUHK\, the pair is expected to help advance the development of sports education. \n\n\n\nDoo Hoi-kem\, a representative of the Hong Kong\, China Table Tennis Team\, won bronze in the Women’s Team event at the 2020 Olympic Games. Chan Yan-kit\, Head Coach of the Hong Kong\, China Para Badminton Team\, led the team to a silver medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games. DESCRIPTION:The HPE Learning and Teaching Seminar 2025/26\, “Health Education and Promotion: Train the Trainer Program in Cambodia “\, was successfully conducted on 18 Nov 2025. \n\n\n\nDr. OR Pui Lai\, Peggy shared the fruitful outcomes of the “Train the Trainer Program”\, which aimed to transfer protocol\, assessment skills and teaching materials for hand hygiene and infection control to undergraduate nursing students of Cambodia\, so that these trainers could in turn educate secondary school pupils on such issues. \n\n\n\nThe project team led by Peggy adopted not only face-to-face teaching mode for the program but also technology for delivering online sessions\, and extended the “Train the trainer” practice to physical education lessons with the participation of students of Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) programme. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Peggy Or shared her valuable experience of “Train the Trainer” program with the staff and students at the University.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Louie Hung-tak Lobo\, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Health and Physical Education\, led a group of 40 students on 12 November in an invaluable visit to the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI)\, Hong Kong’s flagship elite training facility. This excursion was designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and world-class sporting practice\, offering a rare glimpse into the ecosystem that produces world champions. \n\n\n\nOur students observed the cutting-edge application of sports science\, from biomechanics labs\, sports nutrition kitchen and physiological testing to advanced recovery facilities. They engaged with professional coaches and sports scientists\, gaining first-hand insight into periodization planning\, technique analysis\, and the holistic athlete development model. Witnessing elite athletes in dedicated training provided students a powerful and real-time case study on peak performance\, talent management\, and the psychological resilience required at the highest level. This visit was a profound inspiration\, moving beyond textbook learning to showcase the tangible career pathways in sports science\, coaching\, and high-performance management. It underscored the critical role of a scientific and supportive infrastructure in athletic excellence\, leaving the students with a renewed passion for their potential future professions.

SUMMARY:Future of Smart Automation – HPE’s Academic Visit to Peking University under the “Ten Thousand People Plan”
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) at The Education University of Hong Kong was honored to be invited by the Department of PE at Peking University to participate in a seven-day academic visit to Peking University from 26 October to 1 November 2025 which was supported by the “Ten Thousand People Plan” (萬人計劃) under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The visit was led by Prof. Amy HA\, Dr. Gary CHOW\, Dr. Claudia WONG and Dr. ZHENG Chen\, with 20 students actively engaged in the trip. \n\n\n\nRepresentatives from HPE and Department of PE\, Peking University\n\n\n\nAn opening ceremony was held on the morning of 27 October to officially inaugurate the academic visit. \n\n\n\n\nRepresentatives from HPE and Department of PE\, Peking University\n\n\n\n\nOver the last week\, HPE representatives participated in various activities organized by Peking University\, including observing the training of high-level athletic teams and engaging in in-depth exchanges with experts to share valuable insights and experiences. \n\n\n\nHPE representatives observed the training of Basketball Team\, Peking University\n\n\n\nHPE representatives observed the training of Football Team\, Peking University\n\n\n\nHPE representatives participated in the lesson for adventure training\n\n\n\nA key highlight was HPE’s participation in the “第十屆北大人文體育高層論壇—智動未來：AI時代的人文體育精神”\, hosted by the Department of PE\, Peking University. During the forum\, Prof. HA delivered a keynote speech alongside several distinguished experts from Chinese Mainland universities\, and engaged in a roundtable discussion on “高水平運動員人才培養模式新探索”. During the subsequent sub-forum sessions\, three HPE staff members\, Dr. Gary CHOW\, Dr. Claudia WONG and Dr. ZHENG CHEN\, as well as two PhD students\, Mr KONG Yu Hin and Ms Jaclyn TSANG\, presented their research on the topic “AI賦能：運動與身心健康促進”\, receiving recognition from peers. \n\n\n\nProf. Amy HA\, Head of Department\, HPE delivered a keynote speech (Photo: Peking University)\n\n\n\nThis visit not only strengthened the academic connections in the field of sports between universities of Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland\, but also provided a solid foundation for future collaboration in research development. SUMMARY:1st Departmental Luncheon Meeting for Academic Staff and PhD Students 2025/26
DESCRIPTION:The Departmental Research and Development Committee (DRDC) hosted its first luncheon meeting for academic staff and PhD students for the 2025/26 academic year on 3 October 2025. The meeting provided an informal and engaging platform for academic staff members and research postgraduate students to connect\, share ideas\, and discuss upcoming initiatives for research and development of the Department. \n\n\n\nA key highlight was the open discussion session\, where participants shared their research insights and expertise\, as well as the ongoing projects and important findings. The event concluded on a positive note\, setting a collaborative tone for the upcoming academic year. \n\n\n\nLed by Dr Carman Leung\, colleagues and PhD students engaged in robust exchange of ideas and discussions at the meeting.\n\n\n\n\nProf Kuo Chia-Hua was eager to share his research findings with colleagues and students.\n\n\n\n\nThe DRDC would like to thank all who attended and contributed to making this event a success. SUMMARY:[KCC PSA Challenge Cup 2025] Outstanding Performance in Squash from EdUHK Elite Athlete-Students
DESCRIPTION:The KCC PSA Challenge Cup 2025 was held from 29 September to 3 October at the Kowloon Cricket Club. Our elite athlete-student Fung Ching Hei (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an outstanding performance\, capturing the Women’s Champion title. \n\n\n\nAs the top seed in the women’s draw\, Ching Hei showcased consistency and composure throughout the tournament\, ultimately defeating her opponent 3–1 in the final to claim the championship. In the men’s final\, an all-Hong Kong battle took place.
