SUMMARY:HPE Programme Experiential Day 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) successfully hosted the HPE Programme Experiential Day on 27 June 2026\, which provided prospective students\, along with their teachers and parents\, with valuable insights into the undergraduate programmes offered by the Department.  \n\n\n\nThe event allowed participants to explore various aspects of the programmes through hands-on activities and practical sessions\, ranging from laboratory tests at the Human Performance Laboratory to taster lessons on Karate\, Rugby\, Strength and Conditioning\, Table Tennis\, Mobility Stick\, Tchoukball\, and Indoor Rowing. Attendees gained first-hand experience of the Department’s dynamic learning environment and diverse curriculum. \n\n\n\n(Photo of students participating in indoor rowing practical lesson)\n\n\n\nThe Department was honoured to have several current and former Hong Kong elite athletes conduct the trial lessons\, including Ms. Lee Ho Ching\, current member of the Hong Kong China Women’s Table Tennis Team; Ms. Chan Ka Man\, former member of the Hong Kong China Karatedo Team; and Mr. Yong Chi-fung\, former member of the Hong Kong China Men’s Rugby 7s Team and former Head Coach of the Hong Kong China Women’s Rugby 7s Team. \n\n\n\nTheir professional guidance and fruitful sharing provided participants with valuable and enjoyable learning experiences\, highlighting the event’s major goal. DESCRIPTION:Our graduated elite athlete-student Doo Hoi Kem (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an impressive performance at the “WTT Star Contender São José dos Campos 2026”\, securing a silver medal in Women’s Doubles and a bronze medal in Mixed Double \n\n\n\nIn the Women’s Doubles final held on 25 July\, Doo Hoi Kem partnered with Ng Wing Lam to take on the tournament’s third-seeded Japanese pair. Despite their determined effort\, they were defeated 0-3 in the final and finished with a commendable silver medal.  Doo Hoi Kem then teamed up with Wong Chun Ting in the Mixed Doubles event. The pair put up a strong fight in the semi-finals but lost to the Japanese team. Although they fell short of reaching the final\, they secured a bronze medal in the event. DESCRIPTION:Our elite athlete-student Fung Ching Hei (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) captured a silver medal in the Women’s Individual event and a historic gold medal in the Mixed Team event at the “2026 FISU World University Championship Squash” held Mumbai\, India. \n\n\n\nThe Women’s Individual final took place on 6 August. Fung Ching Hei defeated opponents from India\, France\, and Spain on her way to the final. In the championship match\, she faced the defending champion and top-seeded player from Spain. Despite a determined effort\, she was defeated 0-3 and ultimately secured a well-deserved silver medal for Hong Kong.  \n\n\n\nIn the Mixed Team event held on 9 August\, Fung Ching Hei and her teammates defeated Great Britain and France to advance. Facing the host nation India in the final\, she secured a straight-games victory over her opponent to level the tie and ultimately edged past India on a points countback to claim Hong Kong’s first-ever gold medal in the team event at the World University Squash Championships. SUMMARY:[Europe Smash - Sweden 2026] Doo Hoi Kem Claims Two Silver!
DESCRIPTION:Our graduated elite athlete-student Doo Hoi Kem (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an outstanding performance at the “Europe Smash – Sweden 2026” held in in Malmö\, Sweden\, advancing to the finals in both Mixed Doubles and Women’s Doubles\, and ultimately securing two silver medals. \n\n\n\nIn the Mixed Doubles event held on 15 August\, Doo Hoi Kem partnered with Wong Chun Ting and progressed smoothly through the rounds\, defeating pairs from Slovakia\, Germany\, and Spain before advancing to the championship match. Despite putting on a solid performance against the Chinese duo\, they eventually fell 1-3 and claimed the silver medal. \n\n\n\nLater the same day\, after a brief rest\, Doo Hoi Kem teamed up with Ng Wing Lam in the Women’s Doubles competition. The Hong Kong duo continued their excellent form\, defeating several strong opponents to secure a place in the final. Facing the Japanese pair currently ranked at second in the world\, they engaged in a hard-fought battle. Although the Hong Kong duo eventually fell 1-3\, they successfully secured a silver medal. DESCRIPTION:Our current elite athlete-student Ma Ching Hong Nicholas (Bachelor of Health Education (Honours)) delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 UCI Junior Track World Championships\, setting a personal best in the men’s 1km time trial and finishing fourth overall. \n\n\n\nThe event took place on 20 August. Nicholas clocked a personal best time of 1 minute 2.508 seconds in the qualifying round and advanced to the final in fourth place out of 36 riders. He finished the final race with 1 minute 2.959 seconds and placed fourth overall\, just 1.12 seconds short of the podium. \n\n\n\nAlthough narrowly missing a medal\, Nicholas gave his all and marked an important achievement at the Junior World Championships. SUMMARY:Visiting PhD Student from the University of Jyväskylä Shares Innovative PE Teaching Approach with EdUHK Students
DESCRIPTION:On 9 September 2026\, the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) welcomed Ms Alicia Lucendo Noriega\, avisiting PhD student from the University of Jyväskylä\, Finland\, to a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) class at EdUHK. \n\n\n\nAlicia’s visit marked a meaningful continuation of the academic exchange established during HPE’s international visit to the University of Jyväskylä in August 2024 (https://flassnews.eduhk.hk/newsletter_article/SUMMER_2024_ISSUE_10/Cross-Cultural%20Collaboration%20between%20JYU%20and%20EdUHK). Building on this collaborative relationship\, she shared insights from her doctoral research project\, MUSPRO (Music\, Sports\, and Prosocial Behaviour\, https://www.jyu.fi/en/projects/muspro-music-and-sports)\, which explores the connections between music\, movement\, and social development. \n\n\n\nDuring the visit\, Alicia led an engaging 40-minute practical session intergrating sound\, music\, rhythm\, and movement. Through a carefully structured lesson\, Year 3 BEd(PE) students experienced how music-based activities can be incorporated into physical education to support learning and personal development. The session highlighted dimensions of physical education that extend beyond psychomotor development. Students took part in activities that encouraged communication\, imagination\, emotional awareness\, and collaboration\, while also experiencing moments of calm and reflection through movement. The innovative teaching approach provided students with a fresh perspective on how physical education can contribute to holistic learning and well-being. \n\n\n\nHPE remains committed to fostering international academic exchange and warmly welcomes scholars and researchers from around the world to share their expertise with staff and students. DESCRIPTION:On 21 September 2026\, a delegation from the Shanghai Administration of Sports visited The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) to exchange views on athlete development and collaboration. \n\n\n\nAt the meeting\, Professor Lee Chi Kin\, President of EdUHK\, extended a sincere welcome to the delegation and introduced the University as the first elite-athlete-friendly university in Hong Kong\, emphasising its strong commitment to the admission and development of athletes. Mr. Lu Lin\, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Administration of Sports\, stated that Shanghai is actively advancing innovation in sports science and attaches great importance to the career development of retired athletes. He noted that enabling athletes to pursue further studies at EdUHK would help broaden their career pathways\, and he also extended a sincere invitation to EdUHK faculty and students to visit Shanghai for exchanges and internships. \n\n\n\nProfessor Ha Sau Ching\, Head of the Department of Health and Physical Education\, presented the Department’s future development and its “Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme”\, which encompassed comprehensive learning support\, career development\, flexible curriculum arrangements\, and scholarship provisions. Associate Professor Dr. Sun Fenghua\, Principal Lecturer Dr. Kam Wai Keung\, and Lecturer Mr. Siu Ka Man together with Mr. Man Ka Ho and Ms. Lai Wing Sze\, Assistant Officers of Elite Athlete Development\, also shared relevant experiences and outcomes. \n\n\n\nAfter the meeting\, the delegation visited the University’s Human Performance Laboratory.
