Successful 2nd PE Assembly 2024/25 Insights on EDB's Optimization of Weighting for Internal Assessments in Physical Education

2025年1月20日 全天

The Health and Physical Education (HPE) department successfully hosted the 2nd Physical Education (PE) Assembly on 20 January, 2025, which served as a pivotal platform for over 180 students from the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Physical Education) [BEd(PE)] and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Primary and Secondary) [PGDE(P)/(S)] programmes.

HPE is very honour to have had Ms. Annie Wong, Chief Curriculum Development Officer (Physical Education) and her respective colleagues to explain to us the forthcoming changes in the Internal Assessment (IA; 教育局優化呈分試科目比重) for the Secondary School Places Allocation System. This new framework will be implemented starting from the second term of Primary 5 in the 2026/27 school year. With this valuable opportunity, HPE colleagues intended to equip our future PE teachers from the BEd(PE) and PGDE(P)/(S) programmes with a thorough understanding of the rationale behind these changes and the support available to schools.

We are proud to share that the active participation of PE-major students was a highlight of the assembly, demonstrating their engagement and commitment to their professional development. This engagement was recognized and commended by the EDB representatives, highlighting the importance of interactive learning environments in teacher education. The assembly not only served as an informative session but also as a networking opportunity for students to connect with faculty, peers, and industry professionals.

Following the assembly, EDB representatives toured the Human Performance Laboratory and sports facilities, providing them with firsthand insights into the practical applications of the theoretical concepts discussed during the assembly. Additionally, students from the BEd(PE)-5 showcased their innovative deliverables from their Final Year Projects, further demonstrating the practical implications of their learning and the relevance of the new assessment framework.
