[Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games] Professor Stephen Cheung, President Congratulating Doo Hoi Kem & Lee Ho Ching

Hong Kong’s women’s table tennis team has won the historic BRONZE medal at team event in Olympic Games. Professor Stephen Cheung Yan Leung, President of EdUHK, had a dialogue with the two Elite Athlete-students of EdUHK- Doo Hoi Kem and Lee Ho Ching for congratulating their outstanding performance via Zoom on 6 August 2021.
Doo and Lee are studying Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) at EdUHK, while Doo is one of the awardees of President’s Commendation Scheme (Sports) in 2020/21. President Professor Cheung was following the Olympic games closely and he kept cheering up for the EdUHK Olympians via live TV broadcast and phone message to them.
President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung commended, “Doo and Lee, together with their teammate Minnie, demonstrated their strong mentality and spirit during the matches. With their perseverance and resilience, they remained strong in managing their studies and sports career. The medal proves that when you are committed to your goal, your hard work will be rewarded.”
Apart from Doo and Lee, a graduate and another three elite athlete-students represented Hong Kong to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, they are Lee Wai Sze (alumna and honorary fellow), Leung Bo Yee, Shek Wai Hung and Michael Cheng Chun Leung.
In 2010, EdUHK admitted the first batch of elite athletes to the Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) Programme and made a pledge to be an ‘Elite Athlete Friendly University’ in 2018, providing full support to the dual career pathway of elite athlete-students by offering special admission scheme, curriculum scholarships and flexible academic arrangement.
