Optimism and Perseverance – Key to Overcoming Challenges

Lee Chun Ho (Ho B), the final year Bachelor of Health Education (Honours) student was the first local sportsman to test positive for coronavirus after returning from a training stint in Paris in mid-March. Ho B, the elite athlete of Hong Kong Karate Team, experienced lots of challenges during the outbreak, and would like to share his inspiring story for encouraging the fellows and juniors at EdUHK to overcome difficulties with positive attitude.

During the treatment and recovery process, being optimistic and persevering has helped him manage his emotions, especially when he tested positive again and needed to be hospitalised for a longer period.

“Feeling happy or unhappy is a response to the surrounding circumstances in our lives,” said Ho B. “We cannot control the outcome or process, but we can choose how to perceive difficulties and the way we tackle them.”

Although sports careers can be very short-lived, Ho B would also like to encourage juniors to think about the paths after retirement.

“Thanks to the University and the Department of Health and Physical Education, I am thankful for the opportunity to continue with my career in sport, while acquiring academic knowledge and practical skills beneficial for my future development.” said Ho B.
