Supported by Hong Kong Disneyland and in cooperation with Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (HKFHY), Dr. LEUNG Ka Man, Carman, Assistant Professor of HPE, has announced the findings of the physical fitness and physical activity level of Hong Kong people using wheelchair in a press conference on 14 January 2023. As the first research endeavor specifically for the population with physical disabilities in Hong Kong, Dr Leung and her research team revealed that wheelchair users have showed poor flexibility and body composition indices. Further, most participants were satisfied with their quality of life and would like to participate in outdoor activities and voluntary works.
 
Based on the study’s results, Dr Leung and her research team suggested that an extensive investigation of physical fitness and physical activity level among people with all types of physical disabilities in Hong Kong should be conducted, especially those “hidden” wheelchair users. More resources should be invested to promote wheelchair users’ physical and mental health.
