Visiting PhD Student from the University of Jyväskylä Shares Innovative PE Teaching Approach with EdUHK Students
September 6 All day
On 9 September 2026, the Department of Health and Physical Education (HPE) welcomed Ms Alicia Lucendo Noriega, avisiting PhD student from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, to a Bachelor of Education (Physical Education) class at EdUHK.
Alicia’s visit marked a meaningful continuation of the academic exchange established during HPE’s international visit to the University of Jyväskylä in August 2024 (https://flassnews.eduhk.hk/newsletter_article/SUMMER_2024_ISSUE_10/Cross-Cultural%20Collaboration%20between%20JYU%20and%20EdUHK). Building on this collaborative relationship, she shared insights from her doctoral research project, MUSPRO (Music, Sports, and Prosocial Behaviour, https://www.jyu.fi/en/projects/muspro-music-and-sports), which explores the connections between music, movement, and social development.
During the visit, Alicia led an engaging 40-minute practical session intergrating sound, music, rhythm, and movement. Through a carefully structured lesson, Year 3 BEd(PE) students experienced how music-based activities can be incorporated into physical education to support learning and personal development. The session highlighted dimensions of physical education that extend beyond psychomotor development. Students took part in activities that encouraged communication, imagination, emotional awareness, and collaboration, while also experiencing moments of calm and reflection through movement. The innovative teaching approach provided students with a fresh perspective on how physical education can contribute to holistic learning and well-being.
HPE remains committed to fostering international academic exchange and warmly welcomes scholars and researchers from around the world to share their expertise with staff and students. Such collaborations enrich learning experiences, strengthen global partnerships, and inspire new ideas in teaching, research, and professional practice.
Together, we continue to connect, collaborate, and learn across cultures and disciplines.”
