Asian Games 2026|EdUHK Alumnus Hung Ho-wai Wins Two Bronze Medals in Karate
September 21 All day
EdUHK elite athlete alumnus Hung Ho Wai Howard, a graduate of the Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management, delivered an outstanding performance at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, winning two bronze medals in the men’s individual kata and men’s team kata events.
In the men’s individual kata, Howard defeated opponents from Korea and Mongolia to advance to the semi-finals. Although he was defeated by Macanese opponent in the semi-final, he performed Suparinpei (“一百零八手”) and defeated Malaysian opponent to secure the bronze medal, marking a historic Asian Games medal for Hong Kong in men’s individual kata.
Howard joined his teammates, Tang Yu Hin and Lee Chi Kong, on 23 September in the men’s team kata competition. The Hong Kong team lost to Macau in the quarter-finals but advanced to the bronze medal match through the repechage after Macau progressed to the final. In the bronze medal match, the team secured a 3:2 victory to win the bronze medal, marking Hong Kong’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the men’s team kata.
With two bronze medals won at this year’s Asian Games, Howard demonstrated his strong technical ability, competitive spirit and teamwork on the international stage.
Congratulations to Howard on winning two Asian Games bronze medals! The Department of Health and Physical Education warmly congratulates Howard and his teammates and wishes all EdUHK student-athletes and alumni continued success in the Games.
