EdUHK and JCI Queensway Collaborative Study on Physical Activity Engagement and Preferences of Wheelchair Users in Hong Kong
Aug 4, 2025 All day

On 4th August 2025, Dr. LEUNG Ka Man, Carman, Associate Professor of the Department of Health and Physical Education at the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has worked with JCI Queensway and held a press conference to present findings from our collaborative research study about the physical activity (PA) engagement and preferences of wheelchair users in Hong Kong, as well as their perceived PA facilitators and barriers.
Results of these studies showed that only 5.3% of 151 interviewed wheelchair users met the World Health Organization’s physical activity recommendations (2020), which advise engaging in at least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity each week. More than one-third (37.1%) of wheelchair users hadn’t engaged in any moderate-intensity physical activities over the course of a week. Results also identified wheelchair users’ perceived PA barriers, and policy recommendations are suggested.
