Local dailies reported that EdUHK and the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) signed a memorandum of understanding for providing higher education to retiring and retired local athletes, becoming the first local university to provide related supports to athletes. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Mr Timothy Fok Tsun-ting, President of SF&OC and Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, President of EdUHK.
 
The collaboration jointly launched by the Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) under the SF&OC and the EdUHK will adopt a flexible admission approach, allowing elite athletes nominated by their athletic associations to pursue EdUHK’s designated undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, preparing for their career development after retirement.
 
President Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung shared that EdUHK’s comprehensive support for the athletes’ whole-person development encompasses various areas in addition to the special admission scheme, including scholarships and flexible study arrangements, and over 90 elite athletes have been admitted to the University’s various programmes.
